199. Ask p&m: head on photography festival (www.headon.com) [discussion]

What do people think of portraiture coming out of australia?? and if such a prize were open to international submissions, would the prospect of being involved in an international competition in Sydney be something you would consider?

Hey Saha.

My friend just came back from shooting a road trip project across Australia, from what i've seen it looks incredibly interesting, it certainly strikes me a place that has the potential to be a platform for some great portraiture. I haven't seen much but the land certainly lends itself to contemporary photography well.

I think it would have a good chance of international interest, everyones always looking to show work outside of their own country and city. I think if it were to be pitched it should have a fresh concept in terms of the location of the show.

Hope this kind of helps :s

yeah, im doing a road trip this year.. in particular to the remote indigenous communities in the northern territory under INTERVENTION from the Australian federal government. Ask your friend to post them, I'd love to take a look.

the HEAD ON portraiture prize is coming up, ill post a link when the finalists are up, for people to look at.

just wanted to guage the interest in international competitions, and any feedback. eg what would make it fresh? what do u mean by location? as in, not in a traditional gallery setting?

thanks brendon
