This is nice. It looks like you've been painting more than capturing. You've managed to get so much of the highlight detail on a low key lighting. From a personal point I prefer it more when the skin and eyes are a little muted where the blends are smooth and without the distraction of the surfaces reaction that the light reflects from. does that sound right?

Yeah, I totally understand what you mean, this is a bit of a marmite photo if I am honest, some people like it and others really don't. It was a bit of an experiment really. I used one tungsten continuous lamp (cam right) and then a snooted bowens flash as a fill so there was a mix of hot and cold. There was alot of post production as well which again divides people. Here's a slightly less processed one. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2912562341_967b5dbd09_o.jpg

This image seems to have conjured up some interesting points which is why it is image of the week. I think any picture that provokes a discussion is an endeavor to ponder on the beauty of photography itself and should be endorsed.
Me? i think the image is speaking about the fragility of the human persona, especially when captured inside the photograph. All portraits are a reflection of the human condition in some way and here i see i great deal of mystique in the subjects eye's, we are forced to peer into something we don't know or understand, which for the mass is a scary prospect.
Brendan.
