The Emerging Photographers Showcase
Photography & Mash showcases emerging photographers both online and in print.
We set ourselves apart from other web galleries by engaging in a dialogue with our community with a new concept: we provide a collection of briefs set by culturally relevant individuals, which can be used as a starting point for a new project. We are still finalizing our list of briefs for the coming months, but we can say the individuals that set them are from a range of backgrounds including design, music, art and literature. Basically, we supply our community with the best starting points in town and by inviting carefully selected people we offer a range of diverse ideas and themes.
Our website includes a dynamic gallery that changes daily, event listings, discussion and more photography-based content. This site is community powered and offers a source of inspiration and a place to display the work of talented new photographers.
The briefs are starting in September and will be set every 8 weeks. Any photographer can submit entries to the brief, and after the closing date we select the top 10 entries and feature them on our site. Additionally, at the end of the year we shortlist the top projects and showcase them in our publication called "The Photography Annual".
We believe that by producing a book purely exhibiting new talent, we can give a fresh insight into contemporary photography and popular culture whilst boosting the awareness of emerging photographers. Photographs are important to us, as they are to many, and "The Photography Annual" aims to go some way to satisfying the interest of those with a yearning for imagery and cultural reflection more generally.
